Toby trailer: Raj B Shetty promises another gritty venture like Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana

Kannada actor-director Raj B Shetty became quite a sensation back in 2021 with the release of his second directorial venture, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana. The movie was widely hailed by filmmakers across the country, from Anurag Kashyap to Ram Gopal Varma. Now, Raj is returning with an equally intriguing film titled Toby, and the trailer of the movie was released on Friday to a great response.

The trailer, which is edited in a non-linear fashion, shows glimpses of the titular character Toby. A priest calls him Satan, another character calls him ‘thick-headed and dumb’, and going by what happens on the screen, we gather that Toby is a pretty naïve fellow who can also turn into a monster.

His story can be equated to the fable of a sacrificial goat that is mentioned at the start of the trailer. The narrator says if the sheep meant for sacrifice escapes, it shouldn’t return for it will not be a sheep anymore but Maari (Goddess) herself. Toby seems to be the sheep, who is exploited by many, and once he gets an afterlife, he comes back looking for blood.

Written by Raj B Shetty and directed by Basil Alchalakkal, the film also stars Chaithra J Achar, Samyuktha Horanad, Gopalakrishna Deshpande, and Raj Deepa Shetty. It will be released in theatres on August 25.
