The complaint accused Ju Haknyeon of violating South Korea’s prostitution law, Article 4 of the Act on the Punishment of Arranging Sexual Traffic, as reported by Nate News. The person who filed it also requested a deeper investigation, hinting that this might not be a one-man scandal but part of something bigger involving others in the entertainment industry. The controversy erupted after photos of Ju Haknyeon at a Tokyo lounge with Asuka started circulating online. At first, it looked like they might be dating, but soon, a few K-media reports dropped hints that the meetup could’ve been more sinister. Before the police report hit the headlines, THE BOYZ’s agency, ONE HUNDRED, took action. On June 18, they terminated his contract. CEO Cha Ga Won followed with a public apology, saying: “We sincerely apologise for the recent events involving our artists and staff. We humbly accept our responsibility and reflect deeply on our lack of oversight.”

Ju Haknyeon speaks out over sudden group exit

On June 19, Ju penned a handwritten note on his Instagram stories, updating fans about the situation surrounding him. He admitted to being at a private gathering on May 30, where the photos were taken. But he firmly denied any illegal activity. “On May 30, 2025, it is true that I attended a private drinking gathering with an acquaintance and that I was present at that place. However, I want to completely false that I have ever engaged in prostitution or any illegal activity as reported in the articles or rumours. I am deeply reflecting on my actions and would like to sincerely apologise to those who were shocked by this.”

Soon after Haknyeon’s exit, the rest of THE BOYZ addressed their fans, known as THE B. Member Juyeon wrote: “We know how heavy and confusing today must have felt. We’re deeply sorry.”

Sunwoo added a longer post, saying he would reflect on past mistakes and work on becoming a better person. Just a week earlier, Sunwoo himself was caught up in several accusations along with other group members after photos surfaced of him at a club, where he was allegedly partying with underage influencers and drinking alcohol with them. The controversy also dragged in names like ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo, MJ, and a few members from ENHYPEN, Stray Kids, and ATEEZ. The agency has yet to respond to any of these claims. Other members like Eric and Younghoon also apologised and assured fans they’re committed to staying strong as a group.

Ju Haknyeon’s controversy follows former NCT 127 member Taeil’s first court hearing on aggravated rape charges on June 18, where the K-pop star pleaded guilty alongside two other acquaintances. The victim was confirmed to be of Chinese nationality, and prosecutors uncovered disturbing text exchanges between the men before the crime took place. And now, even though Joo Haknyeon has denied the prostitution claims, the damage is already done. THE BOYZ, who had built a reputation for being clean and controversy-free, are now dealing with fallout they didn’t see coming in what was supposed to be a big year for them.
