Met Gala 2025: K-pop stars are lighting up New York City on May 5. BLACKPINK members Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé, ahead of the group’s big comeback, hit the red carpet of the annual haute couture fundraising gala together for the first time. Jennie has attended before, but this marks the trio’s debut as a unit. Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups made his much-anticipated first appearance, acing the theme ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’.
The doors to Met Gala 2025 have opened, and the scene is stunning. A calm blue wash covers the steps, setting a dreamy mood. Jennie, fresh off her Coachella success, arrived in a sharp black suit pant with a matching off-the-shoulder top, unsurprisingly wearing Chanel, being the brand ambassador of the French luxury house, and flaunting a long train at the back. To seal her look with dandyism and a superfine tailored edge, she added pearl chains and a white-and-black top hat — a look completely unexpected from her, since the singer has always gone for more risk-free couture before. But this definitely shows a new era of Jennie Kim.
Speaking to Vogue, the SOLO singer said, “I do my best with my research,” sharing that her look is inspired by Coco Chanel’s decades old runway looks. She also spoke about BLACKPINK’s reunion after the host praised her look for the night, calling it her personal favourite. It’s Blackpink in your area, back again,” Jennie added. “I can’t be the one spoiling everything, but it’s going to be good. We can’t wait to meet our fans.”
Another BLACKPINK member, Lisa Manoban, who has successfully made a mark in western pop culture with her electrifying Coachella shows and acting debut in HBO’s White Lotus, arrived at Met 2025 in Louis Vuitton. The 28-year-old is also the brand ambassador for the French luxury house. Known for her stereotype-breaking approaches in fashion and music, Lisa’s black bodysuit look, with long sleeves and legs covered in transparent stockings, and a jacket over the top decked in pearls and gold, was definitely top-notch and serving. Rosé, on the other hand, took a more casual approach, keeping it clean and elegant in an oversized black suit pant, completed with her natural blonde hair and a dramatic train.
The highlight for tonight’s K-pop x Met Gala was probably S.Coups, aka Choi Seung-cheol. As a global ambassador for the fashion brand BOSS, he came in and served like a true boss, nailing the ‘Tailored for You’ dress code. Taking clear inspiration from South Korea’s traditional hanbok and blending it with modern flair, he wore a light grey, satin-finish top with a layered neckline, under a darker, structured vest. His silver-grey hair added just the right touch of whimsy.
Stray Kids have reportedly skipped the event this year.
