Singer Kumar Sanu has been part of the music industry since the late 1980s and has over 21,000 songs to his credit. The singer’s popularity rose instantly after he started playback singing in Bollywood. However, he recently said that the expectations of the audience are such that every public figure has to forget what is going on in their personal lives to entertain them. In an interview with Pinkvilla, the singer recalled that he had to perform live at a concert on the same day his father passed away.

“The show must go on. This is that one thing that Raj Kapoor ji said. When you are going in front of the public, the public has nothing to do with what is happening in your family, or if you are hurt or something. They don’t care. They just know that if Kumar Sanu has come, he will sing well. So I had to sing in front of them with a smile on my face,” recalled Sanu, whose real name is Kedarnath Bhattacharya.

The singer also revealed that on the same unfortunate day when he had to perform live after experiencing such personal loss, he slipped on the stage. The audience had showered flowers on the singer while he was performing, which made the stage slippery. But the audience did not even realise that he had slipped on the stage.

“It was very difficult and that evening I also fell on the stage. There were so many flowers being showered on me that I slipped on them,” he said and added, “I fell down but continued singing and the audience didn’t realise that I had fallen down, they thought that I was singing in some new style. After finishing the song when I went inside, everyone came rushing to me, asking if I was ok but the public didn’t realise that I had fallen.”

Kumar Sanu’s list of famous songs include “Ab Tere Bin”, “Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai”, “Sochenge Tumhe Pyaar” and “Ye Kaali Kaali Aankhen” amongst many others.
