Rapper Hanumankind made Indians proud with his recent performance at Coachella 2025 in California. He embraced the Indian culture as  he appeared on the stage with Chenda Melam (a traditional percussion ensemble from Kerala). Several clips from his performance went viral, garnering loads of likes from netizens.

Hanumankind is the latest Indian artist to perform at Coachella after Punjabi stars Diljit Dosanjh and AP Dhillon took the stage at the global music festival last year. The Bengaluru-based recording artiste, whose real name is Sooraj Cherukat, shared a series of videos of his performance at Coachella 2025 on Saturday on his Instagram Stories.

“@coachella Thank you for having me,” he wrote. In his next Instagram Story, Hanumankind posted a clip of him performing with American rapper Maxo Kream. The 33-year-old singer sang his hit songs ‘Big Dawgs’, ‘Run It Up’ and ‘Go To Sleep’ on the stage. Coachella 2025, which is being held in Indio, California, US, began on April 11 and will conclude on April 20.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had lauded the Kerala-born rapper for his recent song ‘Run It Up’, which is gaining international recognition for promoting India’s traditional culture. In the 120th edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi highlighted the track’s role in showcasing Indian martial arts globally.

“Our traditional games are increasingly becoming integrated into mainstream culture. The latest track by the famous rapper Hanumankind, ‘Run It Up’, is gaining significant popularity at the moment,” the Prime Minister said. He further praised the rapper for integrating traditional Indian martial arts such as Kalaripayattu, Gatka, and Thang-Ta into the song, noting, “I congratulate Hanumankind that due to his efforts, people of the world are getting to know about our traditional martial arts.”

The Prime Minister also shared his appreciation on social media, writing, “Be it Fiji, Mauritius, Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad & Tobago, our cultural linkages are thriving! #MannKiBaat.” Additionally, a post from the official PMO X handle stated, “Renowned rapper Hanumankind’s new song has become quite popular these days. Our traditional Martial Arts like Kalaripayattu, Gatka, and Thang-Ta have been included in it.”

Hanumankind gained international fame with his rap track “Big Dawgs”. The song, released in July 2024, features rapper Kalmi and debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #57.  Hanumankind also made his acting debut Aashiq Abu’s Malayalam action comedy Rifle Club, which released in cinemas last year.
