K-pop star Suga, a member of BTS, is under fire for two separate issues. First, a Sports Kyung Hyang report alleged that Suga hasn’t been taking his military service duties seriously. An anonymous source claims Suga skipped classes, didn’t participate actively, and even displayed disruptive behaviour during a mandatory training session. This follows Suga’s recent DUI scandal, which sparked calls for his departure from BTS. The outrage has intensified with these new allegations. Some fans have filed a formal complaint demanding an investigation into his military service stint.
The complaint states, “Suga’s DUI is a result of his poor work attitude and the military office needs to investigate his work using CCTV. We strongly urge that a thorough investigation be conducted into Suga’s work while serving as a social service worker under the Military Service Act and that any violations found be reported to the authorities and dealt with strictly.”
According to a portal, an eyewitness said that Suga never participated during the 4-day 5-night class. “He was so bad that the instructor even scolded him to which Suga nodded his head and then went back to looking at his phone before sleeping. Suga acted like he was a classroom bully trying to assert his dominance at the beginning of the school year,” it said.
However, his military service status remains unchanged for now. According to a report in published in The Associated Press, military officials claim the alleged incidents occurred outside official working hours and won’t affect his current duties. While stationed as a public service agent, Suga works regular hours and can return home after work. Big Hit Music has also apologised on his behalf, stating he will accept any disciplinary measures imposed by his service agency.
Last week, Suga was booked for drunk driving in Seoul’s Yongsan district. The singer was riding an electric scooter while he was under the influence of alcohol. Following the incident, Suga issued an apology, and Big Hit Music, BTS’s management agency, also issued a statement on the matter. According to a report by Soompi, Suga fell while riding an electric scooter in an intoxicated state on Tuesday. The Seoul Yongsan Police Station revealed that they booked Suga on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and are currently investigating the matter. The police officers, who helped Suga after he fell, smelled alcohol on him and took him to the police station.
At the heels of the recent DUI incident, protests demanding Suga’s exit from the band erupted with many sending wreaths to HYBE’s headquarters. It’s unclear if Suga will face consequences for the alleged service lapses. Local police haven’t received a request for a private summons regarding the DUI investigation, suggesting he might appear publicly, reports AP as Suga continues to maintain that he has no plans to leave BTS.
