BTS members Jeon Jungkook, Kim Namjoon, and Min Yoongi (Suga) have reportedly made huge donations to support the victims of the devastating wildfires in South Korea, the worst in the country’s history. According to South Korea’s interior ministry, the death toll has risen to 27, with most of those killed being in their 60s and 70s. Several celebrities are stepping up to help, and the legendary K-pop group has joined the efforts with generous contributions.

The Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association announced that BTS’ Golden Maknae (youngest member) has donated 1 billion KRW ($680,000 USD) to aid relief efforts in the Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam regions. This donation is currently the largest known contribution from any public figure since the wildfires broke out earlier this week.

BTS’ Jungkook donates 1 billion KRW to help wildfire victims

As reported by AllKpop, Jungkook’s donation will be split into two parts. 500 million KRW will go towards an emergency relief fund to help those who have lost their homes in the wildfires. The other 500 million KRW will be used to support the firefighters on the front lines. According to Reuters, the blaze has already ravaged over 45,000 hectares (111,197 acres) of forest land in the southeastern region of the country.

In a press statement released by HYBE, Jungkook said,  “I hope my donation will be of help to the people who are going through tough times. I hope the victims and firefighters will return to their everyday lives soon.” This isn’t the first time Jungkook has made such a huge contribution. The “Euphoria” crooner donated the same amount to Seoul National University Children’s Hospital in 2023 to support the medical treatment of children whose families are unable to afford necessary care.

BTS Suga, J-hope and RM donate to South Korea’s wildfire relief efforts

Earlier, Suga donated to the Korean Red Cross. This marked the rapper’s first public move since his 2024 DUI scandal, which sparked major controversy forcing him to publicly apologise on national television and pay a huge fine. Due to a past shoulder injury, the K-pop idol is serving in the public sector rather than the military. On the other hand, RM and J-Hope each contributed 100 million KRW to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association.

In a statement, BTS leader RM said, “I decided to make this donation, hoping it will be of some help in recovering from the damage caused by the wildfires. I thank the people who are doing their best to extinguish the fires and help the displaced victims, and I hope they can return to their normal lives as soon as possible.” Other Korean celebrities who joined the donation efforts include G-Dragon, Cha Eun Woo, singer Kim Tae Woo, actor Park Han Byul, rapper DinDin, NCT’s Jaemin, and SHINee’s Key.
