The final list of nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards arrived on Friday and immediately sparked social media outrage. Fans of the South Korean boy band BTS, in particular, led the charge in calling out the Recording Academy of the United States for overlooking the band.

Several BTS fans took to social media to express their fury over none of the members’ solo work, released during the eligibility period, receiving any recognition.

“So You Are Saying That This Legendary, History Making, Record Breaking , Fastest Song in History to Achieve 1 Billion Streams on Spotify (And Many Others Records) Didn’t Get a Single Nomination at #Grammys, Seriously??🥴 BTS Paved the Way👑 BTS Bts BTS. Jungkook Paved the Way👑,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter) sharing a clip of Jung Kook’s Seven.

“Let’s talk about how bts paved the way cause kpop artist really thought it’s easy to get a Grammy nomination…no bts no Grammy nomination for kpop,” another user wrote. “Bts don’t Need Grammy actually Grammy needs them for views,” an irked fan penned.

“The indirect nomination is nice but I hope y’all understand that it’s really hard for kpop groups to get a Grammy anyways so we shouldn’t really be surprised cause BTS are the only group that’s ever been nominated 😭,” a netizen noted on X.

Many users also shared a 2019 Forbes article titled “BTS’s 2020 Grammys Shutout Reveals The Recording Academy’s Cultural Blindspot”, which insinuated that it was the Grammys that needed BTS, more than the band needing an acknowledgement from them. BTS remains the only K-pop group to have ever been nominated at the Grammys, and that too five times.

Recording artist SZA led this year’s Grammy Award nominations with nine, coming in ahead of industry heavyweights Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Billie Eilish, in a year made for women artists and the movie blockbuster Barbie, Reuters reported. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on February 4.
