Theatre: The Myth of Reality, directed by Sajin Babu of Biriyani fame, has already emerged as an awards-season contender, with Rima Kallingal winning Best Actress award at the recently concluded Kerala Film Critics Awards. The film’s trailer, which was launched at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, was released online on Friday.
The trailer of Theatre: The Myth of Reality promises a rooted, folklore-inspired exploration of female sexuality and agency, framed through the motif of a mysterious curse afflicting a young woman in a Kerala village. The promo hints at a magical-realist take on modern-day womanhood.

The trailer shows glimpses of Rima Kallingal’s character developing boils on her body, as an old curse and long-buried superstitions begin to haunt her family. As social media latches on, she becomes the focus of media frenzy, and events quickly spiral out of control.
The makers of Theatre: The Myth of Reality shared the trailer with the caption, “Witness the fire that refuses to be tamed. 🔥A story that dares to confront the unseen, question the unquestioned, and ignite the voices that have been buried. Presenting you the trailer of Theatre: The Myth of Reality! Witness a tale that blurs the line between myth and truth. In cinemas from 16th October.”
Set to premiere at the IX Yalta International Film Festival on October 7, the film marks Rima Kallingal’s return to the big screen after a hiatus from Malayalam cinema.
Theatre: The Myth of Reality, also featuring Sarasa Balussery, Krishna Balakrishnan, and Dain Davis, is all set for theatrical release on October 16.
