Ever since The Great Indian Kitchen director Jeo Baby announced that his next directorial would feature Mammootty and Jyotika in the lead roles, movie enthusiasts have been closely following every update about the project.
Titled Kaathal – The Core, the movie has been in production since October last year and its first and second look posters, released a few months ago, underscored that all the hype surrounding the project was worth it.
While the first look poster featured Mammootty and Jyotika, who are joining forces for the first time, sharing a laugh on the porch of their house, the second poster featured the two exhibiting diametrically opposite emotions as they gaze into each other’s eyes intensely.
Now, putting an end to all the anticipation, the film is all set for release and will hit theatres on November 23. Announcing the release date, the makers also revealed a new movie poster showcasing both the lead stars. In contrast to the lighter-toned initial two posters, this one depicts Mammootty and Jyotika’s characters embracing each other as their faces reflect a blend of sadness and tension.
Penned by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria, who scripted the Malayalam film Neymar, Kaathal – The Core is bankrolled by Mammootty Kampany and will be distributed by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. Adarsh Sukumaran also co-scripted the recent Malayalam actioner RDX: Robert Dony Xavier.
Apart from the lead stars, the movie also features Joji John, Jisshu Sengupta, Muthumani, Chinnu Chandni and Sudhi Kozhikode in key roles.
While Salu K Thomas is heading the cinematography team, Francies Louis is in charge of editing and Shajie Naduvil is the art director. Anvar Ali and Jacquiline Mathew have been roped in to pen the lyrics for the songs composed by Mathews Pulickan. The executive producer of the film is S George.
One of the most anticipated movies of the year, Kaathal marks the return of Jyotika to Malayalam cinema after a gap of 14 years. Her last Malayalam film was Seetha Kalyanam (2009), directed by TK Rajeev Kumar.
