Malayalam superstar Mammootty is set to make his return to the big screen after a brief hiatus. The actor had reportedly stepped away from the limelight due to health concerns, with some reports suggesting that he took a break for cancer treatment. Now, offering much-needed relief to his fans, Mammootty’s close friends from the film industry, including actor Mohanlal and actor-writer VK Sreeraman, have shared updates about his health.
Sreeraman, one of Mammootty’s closest friends, revealed that the superstar had called him recently, but he couldn’t answer at the time. Speaking to Manorama News, he said, “I was in an autorickshaw at that time and didn’t hear the phone ring. When I noticed that he had tried to reach me, I called him back. He chided me, asking if I was too busy to pick up his call. When I told him I was travelling in an autorickshaw, he asked why I wasn’t going by car. He then told me about his health. He said he had passed the last and crucial test. There was no excitement in his voice, but I could sense that he was relieved.”
Sreeraman added, “Apart from mentioning how he had lost his appetite and was experiencing some taste issues, his ill health didn’t seem to trouble him much. He would often call me, and we would discuss several things. The last time we spoke, he talked at length about the latest camera brands and their features. He discussed theatre, novels, and politics. I often had no idea about some of the topics he brought up, and he would tease me, joking that I was just pretending to be an intellectual. I’m glad things are getting better.”
Actor Mohanlal, meanwhile, revealed in a recent interview that Mammootty is expected to resume dubbing for his upcoming projects soon. Speaking to Manorama News during the promotions of his upcoming film Hridayapoorvam, Mohanlal expressed his happiness over the veteran actor’s recovery, adding that the quick turnaround was made possible by the prayers of his well-wishers.
The actor said, “I spoke to him shortly after hearing about his recovery. From what I understand, he’s planning to return to work next month and will begin dubbing soon.” Mohanlal added that he even prayed for Mammootty when he visited Sabarimala a few months ago. “This recovery is thanks to everyone’s prayers. So many people have been concerned and praying for him. Wherever I go, people ask me about his health. I’m truly thankful to God for this positive news.”
Mohanlal and Mammootty will be seen sharing screen space in director Mahesh Narayanan’s Patriot.
