Mammootty cinema is my lifeMammootty said he can't imagine a life without cinema.

Mammootty has been working in the movies for 42 years and he has no plans of taking a break. In a recent interview, when the Malayalam actor was asked if there will ever be a point in his life where he steps away from the movies, the actor categorically said “never.” Mammootty, 72, insisted that cinema is not just a part of his life, but his life. He said that he can take a break for a few days when he feels tired but he always wants to look forward to his next film.

Talking on Khalid Al Ameri’s YouTube channel, Mammootty said, “I don’t feel exhausted. Once I feel, that will be my last breath.” When asked if he could ever imagine a day when he is not working, the Turbo actor shared, “I can imagine a day without [cinema] because if I’m tired, I can take 2-3 days of rest. Then after that, I should have the hope for my next film. That it’s going to happen. That makes me comfortable. But otherwise without cinema, no life. Cinema is my life. So whatever happens in cinema will affect my life.”

When further asked if he would ever walk away from cinema, Mammooty declared, “No. Cinema is not a part of my life. It is my life.”

In the same conversation, Mammootty was asked about the growth of Indian cinema in comparison to Hollywood but he insisted that there is “nothing to compare.” He also added that India makes “smaller [films] with better content.” He shared, “India has vast number of languages, different number of cultures. India’s a world of diversity so you can easily make different things. Nothing to compare with Hollywood. They’re very big. So we make it smaller with better content.”

He also said that Indian cinema has a stronghold over “storytelling” and has “more family emotions.” He said, “We talk about friendship. We talk about love, brotherhood, sister, father, family things are there, friendship is there, love, action, revenge, everything is there but in our own way.”

In the last couple of years, Mammootty has appeared in some of the best Malayalam films of the recent past including Bramayugam, Kaathal – The Core and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam among others.
