The last time Mammootty and Mohanlal starred in full-fledged roles in a film together, today’s Malayalam stars like Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin Pauly, Tovino Thomas, and Asif Ali hadn’t made their debuts, and Fahadh Faasil was still on a sabbatical. It was in Twenty:20 (2008) that they last appeared together as leads. When news about them reuniting after 16 years in Mahesh Narayanan’s upcoming film was revealed, Malayalam cinema audience were jubilant. There were also reports that similar to Kadal Kadanna Mathutty (2013), Mohanlal would only be appearing in a cameo in the Mahesh film, which also stars Kunchacko Boban and Fahadh Faasil. However, in a recent interview to The Hollywood Reporter India, Mahesh shed some light on these speculations.

“All the actors have solid characters with lots of material to perform. Lal sir is going to appear in a full-fledged role,” said Mahesh, who also pointed out his challenges in presenting a film that would present the ensemble in the best possible manner. Apart from Mammootty, Mohanlal, Kunchacko Boban and Fahadh, the action thriller also stars Revathy, Nayanthara, and Darshana Rajendran.

Sharing his inspiration for making such a big-budget film with such a huge star cast, Mahesh Narayanan said that he is a big fan of films made by veteran directors IV Sasi and T Damodaran, who revelled in making multi-starrers. “My film is a collaborative experience, and I’m attempting something similar,” said Mahesh.
