Director Dominic Arun’s Lokah: Chapter 1—Chandra, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, Naslen, and Sandy in lead roles, is going strong as it completes a week at the box office. The superhero film began its journey on a slow note, but soon picked up the pace. It performed well over its first weekend, and has continued to deliver steady numbers through its first week. On Wednesday, the film minted Rs 7.1 crore at the box office, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 46.14 crore.

Lokah box office journey and occupancy

Lokah garnered just Rs 2.7 crore on its opening day (August 28). Despite the slow start, positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth helped generate hype, and over the weekend, the film showed impressive growth, minting Rs 7.6 crore and Rs 10.1 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The film saw a 28 percent drop in collections on Monday, earning Rs 7.2 crore, but has since maintained consistent momentum. On Tuesday and Wednesday, it raked in Rs 7.26 crore and Rs 7.19 crore, respectively. On Wednesday, the Malayalam version contributed Rs 6.3 crore, while the Telugu version added Rs 89 lakh.

The film registered an overall 48.49% occupancy in Malayalam and 19.35% occupancy in Telugu.

Lokah worldwide box office

Lokah had minted Rs 93.75 crore worldwide within six days of release, and as of Wednesday evening, it had crossed the Rs 101 crore mark globally. The makers shared the update on Twitter, writing, “Thank you all for this endless ocean of love!.”

Lokah controversy

Lokah landed in controversy after a dialogue in the film allegedly hurt the sentiments of the Kannada-speaking community. Following the uproar, Dulquer Salmaan’s production house, Wayfarer Films, issued an apology. The makers also confirmed that they would remove or edit the “dialogue in question” from the film.

“It has come to our attention that a dialogue delivered by one of the characters in our film Lokah: Chapter One has unintentionally hurt the sentiments of people from Karnataka. At Wayfarere Films, we place people above everything else. We deeply regret this oversight and assure you that no offence was intended. The dialogue in question will be removed/edited at the earliest. We sincerely apologise for the hurt caused and humbly request you to accept our apology,” the statement read.

Lokah vs Hridayapoorvam

Lokah also competed with Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam at the box office, as both films released on the same date. However, the Mohanlal-starrer struggled to gain momentum and has collected just Rs 18.10 crore within seven days of release, which is far below Lokah’s Rs 46.14 crore.
