Jeethu Joseph is currently shooting the much-anticipated third installment of the Drishyam franchise, Drishyam 3. The film will feature Mohanlal and Meena reprising their roles from the first two movies. In a recent interview, the filmmaker opened up about why he felt compelled to continue the story and where he is taking his hero, Georgekutty, in Drishyam 3.
Jeetu told Mid-Day, “I don’t make Drishyam for its twists. The story has to grow organically. The second part took place six years after the first and showed how the family, the police, and the case evolved. In Drishyam 3, we continue exploring what happens to each of these characters as time passes. Georgekutty is getting older — is he as confident as before? That’s what I’m interested in.”
Jeethu Joseph also shared his thoughts on the pitfalls of comparing the upcoming film with its successful predecessor and spoke about how he personally responded online to a fan’s comment regarding it. “Someone wrote that it should be better than the extraordinary Drishyam 2. I replied that I’m not making Drishyam 3 to beat Drishyam 2. I’m making it to tell what’s happening with Georgekutty’s’ family. Their life could go in many directions; I’ve chosen one and followed that.”

There has been considerable speculation surrounding the release of the Hindi and Telugu versions of Drishyam 3, with reports claiming that the producers of the original Malayalam film had issued a legal notice to halt the Hindi team’s plans for a simultaneous release.
Dismissing the rumors of a conflict with the makers of the Hindi adaptation, Jeethu Joseph said, “The Hindi makers told us they were receiving a lot of stories, but they waited when I said I was working on one. I gave them our script translated into English. The rest is just speculation. They plan to start shooting in December. They hold the rights, and release decisions are individual. They have requested a simultaneous release, as it could affect their revenue if the Malayalam version comes first. Discussions are still on.”
Drishyam 3 is currently being filmed in parts of Thiruvalla. It is slated for release in the second quarter of 2026.
