Dulquer Salmaan, who will soon be seen in Raj & DK’s upcoming Netflix series Guns & Gulaabs, recently spoke about his love for driving and revealed that he started learning the basics of driving when he was just 9 years old. In a chat with Mashbale India, DQ said that when he was 9, his family had a driver who taught him the basics on a Maruti 800. He added that his father, Malayalam superstar Mammootty was unaware of this.

“By the time I was 9, my sister was 11. We used to have a slightly elder driver, very sweet gentleman and we kept begging (him), ‘Please teach us.’ And there was an (Maruti) 800. So we would just about reach (the pedals) so I think by then we kind of figured rowing the gears and stuff. And then we just had to understand clutch and the other pedals,” he shared.

Dulquer said that as soon as he learnt driving, he would jump at every chance to sit on the driver’s seat even if it was just for parking. “As soon as we learnt, I would find every excuse, even if it was just parking the car in the house or reversing it back, I would find any excuse to jump into a car and drive. And my dad didn’t know I did this,” he said.

The King of Kotha actor shared that when his father found out, he was “actually very cool about it”. He shared, “So if we were in a closed property, then he would show it off to his friends. He would be like ‘bring the car up’ and they would all be like ‘what, he can drive’. He would be like ‘yeah, he can drive.'”

Dulquer Salmaan has spoken about his love for cars on many occasions in the past. He is a car collector but has never disclosed the exact number of cars he owns. When asked about the number of cars he owns, he told Top Gear India, “This might get me into trouble,” and added, “I have a lot of used cars, I also restore cars.”
