Two years after he set the Kerala box office afire with his gangster action film Bheeshma Parvam, starring Mammootty in the lead role, cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Amal Neerad has announced his return to the director’s chair, this time with a band of younger talents. Titled Bougainvillea, the makers of the movie have finally unveiled its first look poster, featuring the main cast and offering a small glimpse into the movie’s world.
Starring Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Jyothirmayi, Sharaf U Dheen, Veena Nandakumar, and Srinda in key roles, the poster, drenched in blood-red hues, exudes a sense of dread, underscoring that Bougainvillea will be yet another addition to Neerad’s list of action extravaganzas. While Boban stands in the centre of the poster, exuding swagger with a shotgun in his hand, Fahadh stands nearby, pointing a pistol in another direction with a fury-filled demeanour. Sporting a salt-and-pepper look and wielding another shotgun, Jyothirmayi can be seen standing to Boban’s right. In the background, Sharaf U Dheen, Veena Nandakumar, and Srinda add to the intensity, all bearing expressions of fury.
Since Saturday morning, Amal Neerad and his team have been unveiling the names of the major members of Bougainvillea’s cast. Meanwhile, ace filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery, who has been actively promoting the project, also shared a poster of Nivin Pauly on social media, indicating his involvement in Bougainvillea. However, it is said that this is a fan-made poster and since neither Neerad nor the film’s crew have shared any such poster, once can’t help but assume this is true.
Known for his action-packed spectacles and aestheticisation of on-screen violence, Neerad started his career as a cinematographer in Ranjith’s Black, featuring Mammootty in the lead role, in 2004. His first directorial venture, the Mammootty-starrer Big B (2007), became a trendsetter and has since achieved a cult following. His subsequent films such as Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded, Anwar, Bachelor Party, Iyobinte Pustakam, Comrade in America, Varathan, and Bheeshma Parvam have all garnered significant fanbases.
