As always, studios and streamers have curated an eclectic list of films and series for Halloween. Spooky season wouldn’t be complete without a good horror movie, preferably watched curled up in bed, with a tub of popcorn, and one hand on the light switch, just in case. The changing weather certainly adds to the atmosphere as well.

Because of the reduced theatrical windows of the post-pandemic era, audiences were treated to a handful of new horror films, first in theatres, and then again on digital platforms, all within the span of the same month. On the other hand, a slate of streaming titles were also timed perfectly for the Halloween season, leaving viewers spoilt for choice. Here’s a quick list of brand-new options that you can choose from, with something for everyone — from hardcore horror fans to family audiences.

The Enfield Poltergeist – Apple TV+

The four-part documentary series recounts the true story that inspired the events of the second Conjuring film, in which an English family began experiencing poltergeist activity in their council house. The series combines dramatic recreations with actors lip-syncing to original audio recordings made back in 1979.

The Devil on Trial – Netflix

Netflix, on the other hand, revisits the real story behind the third Conjuring film, and also doubles up as a true crime drama about the first time that demonic possession was used in a murder trial.

The Nun II – Google Play, YouTube, Apple Movies

The latest installment in the Conjuring Universe opened in theatres some weeks ago to strong box office response. The film is set in 1950s France, and serves as a direct sequel to the first Nun movie, which is still the biggest entry in the shared franchise.

Haunted Mansion – Disney+ Hotstar

Totally Killer – Prime Video

A throwback to slasher movies of the ’80s, and also an homage to teen films of the same era, Totally Killer combines a spunky lead performance by Kiernan Shipka with a breezy time travel plot.
