Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington commits suicide

Chester Bennington, 41, the frontman of American rock band Linkin Park, allegedly committed suicide on Thursday, news agency AP reported . The singer’s body was discovered around 9 am. According to entertainment news website TMZ, he hung himself at his private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in LA County, US.
The singer’s death is being investigated as an apparent suicide but there are no details available so far, AP quoted LA County Coroner spokesperson Brian Elias as saying.

Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda confirmed the news of the death on twitter. Expressing grief over the sudden loss of his bandmate, Shinoda tweeted “shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one.”
Chester had married twice and had six children. He was known to have grappled with substance abuse from time to time in his life. He had expressed a wish to take his life in the past. He had been a victim of child abuse by an older male.
Chester’s death coincides with US-based band Audioslave lead Chris Cornell’s 53rd birth anniversary who had also committed suicide in May this year. Chester who was very close to Cornell and had written an open letter to him on the day of the latter’s death.
The band was founded by Shinoda along with his school friends Rob Bourdon and Brad Delson in 1996. Bennington joined the group later on as a vocalist. Linkin Park had released its debut album, Hybrid Theory in 2000, giving the world their flawlessly produced fusion of alt-rock, metal and rap. The band’s seventh album One More Light, which released this year, featured at the top of the US Billboard 200.
