There are a few artists in the world who can boast a career like Jamie Foxx. He has shared the screen with some of the most iconic movie stars in the world and featured on songs with the biggest names in the music industry. To honour that very career and his contributions to the arts, he was facilitated with the Ultimate Icon Award at the BET awards this year. Jamie thanked his fans and delivered a very personal acceptance speech in which he talked about his health struggles and how the actor almost lost his life recently.

While accepting the award, Jamie acknowledged the love and praise he has received from people and said, “I cannot begin to express the love that I feel from everyone out here.” A fan promptly screamed out, “We love you, Jamie,” and the actor had to take a moment to gather himself. He continued, “When I saw that memoriam, I thought about how that could have been me. I don’t know why I went through and whatever I went through, but I know that I am not going to turn down this second chance.” The actor then moved on to talking about his two daughters, who were in the audience and how they gave him the strength to get back up.

He said, “My beautiful daughter Corrine, you have always taken the backseat in things, but when you needed to drive it, you drove, and you made sure I was here. Anelise Estelle Fox, my baby with the big hair. The doctors said that I might not survive, and she overheard it. She then came in to my hospital room with her guitar and said, ‘I know what my daddy needs.'” In another video posted by Jamie on the internet, he talked about his health and told his fans that the reason there were no updates or news from his end was because he didn’t want anyone to see him like that. He had initially opened up about his illness back in 2023, when he suffered a stroke due internal bleeding in his brain.

On the professional front, Foxx was last seen in the film Tin Soldier and the Netflix flick Back In Action. Though both movies failed to make a mark on the minds of the audience and weren’t very well received, fans of the actor will be hoping to see the Django Unchained actor back on his acting steed soon.
