President Donald Trump is a gift that just keeps on giving, and reportedly he has more for the world to witness before the closing of the year. According to several reports floating around in the media, the president is personally pushing media conglomerate Paramount to make a Rush Hour 4. The hit comedy series featuring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker saw its last film back in 2007.

THR, USA Today and several other tabloids reported on Wednesday that Trump is very keen on another Rush Hour film. To put things into context, David Ellison is the current CEO of Skydance, which owns Paramount. The president has close ties with both David and his father, Larry Ellison, and apparently it was the latter who was pushed in order to get things rolling. The big problem with Rush Hour returning isn’t just expecting an action comedy from two stars in their 50s and 70s but also the man who is going to be helming the project, Brett Ratner.

Where has Brett Ratner gone?

Ratner came up in the 90s as a successful music video and commercial director. He got his foot in the door with Rush Hour (1998), a movie that exceeded people’s expectations. Two more films of the franchise came in the next 9 years, and altogether the films made $500 million (Rs 4463 crore) just at the domestic box office. After Rush Hour came several other projects, such as the ensemble comedy flick Tower Heist and Hercules starring Dwayne Johnson.

However, in 2017, Ratner was completely banished from Hollywood after 6 women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct, including actors Natasha Henstridge and Olivia Munn. All studios refused to work with him, and hence Rush Hour 4 never got made. However, Trump might be Ratner’s ticket back to the director’s chair; in fact, the two are already working together.

Ratner is currently working on a documentary on first lady Melania Trump, which has been produced with Trump’s participation. The doc-film will also be followed by a docu-series, and the release rights have been acquired by Amazon. This project and Rush Hour 4 will be the first two films by Ratner ever since the allegations that were levelled against him.

Apart from Jackie and Chris, the Rush Hour franchise has seen some great Hollywood names like Tom Wilkinson, Mark Rolston, Harris Rulin, Alan King, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Max Von Sydow.
