The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding with a star-studded lineup of X-Men and the Fantastic Four joining Avengers: Doomsday. The studio has officially announced the exciting cast for the upcoming installment in the Avengers series, set to release on May 1, 2026. This ends a six-year wait since Avengers: Endgame hit theaters in 2019. During a live stream event, Marvel revealed the cast on Wednesday. Several familiar faces from the MCU, including Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Anthony Mackie, are making a comeback. The film will also introduce several key characters from the X-Men franchise and the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, making it one of Marvel’s most powerful crossovers yet.
Apart from Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), and Anthony Mackie (Captain America), the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday will also star Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), and Danny Ramirez (The Falcon). Meanwhile, Characters from Thunderbolts are also joining the fight, including Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), and David Harbour (Red Guardian).

In a big surprise move, Marvel is pulling in iconic X-Men stars from 20th Century Fox’s original films. Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast) are all set to feature in Avengers: Doomsday set for 2026 release. Channing Tatum is finally getting his shot as Gambit after years of failed solo movie attempts.
According to the cast announcement, the newly cast Fantastic Four will also be a part of Doomsday. This means stars like Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), and Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) will mark their attendance in the MCU.
Robert Downey Jr. is back, but not as Iron Man. Instead, he’ll be playing the villainous Doctor Doom. The reveal came at the very end of the livestream when Downey Jr. appeared on screen and gave a sly “shhh” to the camera, leaving fans eager for what’s next.
Despite revealing a 26-person cast, sources suggest that Marvel isn’t done yet. More casting announcements are expected in the coming months. Meanwhile, Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are also coming back home to helm Doomsday after directing Captain America: Winter Soldier, Civil War and the last two Avengers films.
