Kannada star Rishab Shetty, whose 2022 film Kantara put him on the pan-India map, is working hard to bring out the next part of the movie. As he celebrates his 40th birthday on Friday, the actor-director says that the pre-production work of Kantara 2 is progressing and they are planning to release the film in 2024.

Rishab had earlier revealed that the next part of Kantara is a prequel to the first part.

In an interview with indianexpress.com, when asked what are his plans for the coming year, he said, “No plans. As usual work. Kantara ka kaam chal raha hai (Kantara’s work is going on).”

The actor, who also wrote the film, added, “Writing and pre-production is going on. This year we will start shooting and next year release karne ka plan hai bas (Next year we plan to release it).” He remained tight-lipped about the details of Kantara 2 and said that the team will announce everything at the right time. “Aisa nahi karte hum log. Ek official announcement karte hai, proper mahurat rakhe (This is not how we do it. We will make an official announcement and keep a proper mahurat ceremony for that).”

Earlier, Rishab Shetty had spoken at an event about Kantara 2 being a prequel. He had revealed, “What you have seen is actually Part 2, Part 1 will come next year. The idea flashed into my mind while I was shooting for Kantara because the history of Kantara has more depth to it. Currently, we are in the middle of digging into more details. As the research is still underway, it would be very early to reveal details about the film.”

Kantara, produced by Hombale Films, also starred Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Sapthami Gowda, and Pramod Shetty. The film had earned over Rs 450 crore at the box office.
