Basking in the glory of the critical acclaim she received in her debut film ‘Aisha’,actress Amrita Puri is looking forward to a longer innings in Bollywood.
“As of now it is acting that I want to do. It makes me happy. I am looking for a longer innings in Bollywood. Hope things go well,” Amrita told PTI.
“I don’t have any preconceived notions in my head about what kind of roles I want to do. I am looking forward to do ‘meaty’ roles. By that I mean that like in case of ‘Aisha’ my character took the story forward and I had a very significant part to play. So if it’s like a supporting role I don’t mind,” the dimpled lass said.
Amrita essayed the role of Shefali Thakur in ‘Aisha’,a chick flick based on Jane Austen’s Emma, directed by Rajshree Ojha and starring Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol in lead roles.
Though the film did not fare too well at the box-office,it brought Amrita recognition, besides the honour of the best breakthrough performance at the Stardust awards last year. She was also nominated for Best Actress in a supporting role and the Best Debutant categories at various film awards.
“‘Aisha’ has put me in a very good space. I got lot of appreciation which is very heart warming. I was very happy because lots of positive things were said about my performance and I got nominated for each and every award. The film is very close to my heart since it was my first one,” the 27-year-old actress said.
Amrita, daughter of HDFC Bank’s Managing Director Aditya Puri, prefers to be tight-lipped about her future assignments.
“I can’t talk about the offers I have but soon an announcement will come. I have been meeting people and reading scripts. My focus is more on films and theatre,” she said.
On the Television front, she said,”As of now I am not looking for doing anything on TV be it fiction or non-fiction as it takes lot of time. I have made a conscious decision not to do TV. Hosting is something I am interested in but not as a contestant. There have been a lot of offers from TV but I was not interested.”
Amrita did, however, don the role of an intern for the promotions of UTV Bindass’ upcoming show ‘Meri Toh Lag Gayi Naukri’.
“For a day I interned at the channel’s office and performed chores such as fetching files, bringing coffee for seniors and sending invitations among other things,” she said.
The show’s essence lies in the story of the coming of age of five youngsters and their point of view on the most important phases of their lives – their first job,in a light hearted and fun way.
The show starting from March 28 would be telecast from Monday to Thursday at 7pm.
