Yami Gautam shared her take on Deepika Padukone’s stance on working an 8-hour shift. Deepika recently made headlines after reportedly stepping away from two high-profile projects, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD sequel, because her request for an 8-hour workday after becoming a mother was not accommodated. Recently, Yami, who also gave birth to her son Vedavid last year, spoke about Deepika’s decision.

In an interview with Zoom, Yami Gautam said, “To begin with, once a mother, always a mother. Regardless of whether you are employed or a stay-at-home parent, every mother is unique and does everything possible for her child. No one holds more importance to a mother than her child. Regarding my profession, the manner in which I select my scripts is entirely separate from my personal life.”

“While we may desire a time limit like in other professions, our industry operates differently. There are various factors such as locations, permissions, and the involvement of other actors and technicians. Therefore, the idea of a time limit is quite subjective and relies on the collaboration and understanding between an actor, a producer, and a director,” she further explained.

After her exit from the films, Deepika maintained a long silence. However, she recently spoke about not being afraid to question the status quo and demanding better work-life balance for everyone in the industry. “When I began my journey, I was often told how a woman must or is expected to navigate her career in order to be successful. However, from the very beginning, I was never afraid to ask questions, ruffle feathers, walk a more difficult path and challenge the status quo in order to reshape the mould we have all been expected to fit into,” she had said.
