Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi, who made his debut with Tere Mere Sapne, skyrocketed to fame with his portrayal of Circuit in the 2003 movie Munna Bhai MBBS, which gained immense popularity. Despite the enduring relevance of his character through memes, Arshad had previously revealed that Circuit was not the intended name. The Asur actor had also opened up about improvising almost every scene of Munna Bhai MBBS.
In an interview with Prabhu Chawla, Arshad said, “The original name of the character Circuit was Khujli. His clothes and his antics were very different. Naam sunte he aapko lagta hai yeh sirf khujata rahega. Usse zyada kya he karega. Toh woh pura package kharab hojata hai (Upon hearing the name, you might think it’ll just scratch you. But what more will it do? So, the whole package gets ruined).”
Arshad Warsi had revealed he insisted that Munna Bhai MBBS director Rajkumar Hirani change the name of the character and even the type of clothes he wore.
“The first film (Munna Bhai MBBS) I did, I had to kind of improvise a lot. Because at that time, Raju was not aware of my sense of humour and so I had to improvise a lot. Almost every scene and there are some scenes where everything was done by me,” he said.
Sanjay Dutt, who played the lead role in the film, was also very supportive of Arshad’s suggestions. He said, “Me and Sanju had the chemistry. There was no ego between us. We enjoyed working with each other. There were times when I would say, ‘Sanju you say this joke, I will give this type of reaction.’ He would agree.”
