Anushka Sharma, who made her debut with Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi starring Shah Rukh Khan, was living her dream when she landed a film with YRF but, it came with a pinch of salt. Anushka, who is one of the best looking actors of her time, was told by Aditya that he finds her talented but added that she was not very good looking. In an earlier appearance on Koffee with Karan, Anushka recalled the incident and shared it with Karan Johar.
She recalled Aditya’s words and said, “He said I have a lot of belief in your talent and I think you are a very talented actress but I don’t think you are very good looking. You’re not the most good looking girl so you have to make sure that you work really hard.” When Karan asked her about how she evaluated her looks, Anushka said that before meeting the YRF head, she thought of herself as “pretty”.
“Till I met Aditya Chopra, I used to think I’m very very good looking. That yeah, even I can look like this (top female actors), if I have the right hair and make-up,” she told Karan when he asked if she found herself as beautiful as Aishwarya Rai or Katrina Kaif.
Anushka said that when she saw herself on the monitor on the first day of the shoot, she felt like Aditya was right when he evaluated her looks. “When I saw myself on the monitor for the first time while shooting, the first day I saw myself on the screen, I was like he is right,” she said.
Earlier, at India Today Unforgettables, Rani Mukerji also said something similar when she pointed out that she did not find Anushka “drop dead gorgeous” but loved her spark as an actor. “I remember seeing your audition and saying look at the spark that this girl has. You weren’t the prettiest girl. Looking at you, I wouldn’t say that you were drop dead gorgeous but there was something in your performance, something in your personality that was so vibrant and so lovely,” she said.
Anushka has been in the movies since 2008. Her last film appearance was in 2019’s Zero. She is currently looking forward to the release of Chakda Xpress where she plays the role of cricketer Jhulan Goswami.
