Late actor Rishi Kapoor published his book, titled Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor Uncensored in the year 2017. The book has many anecdotes from his film career and also from his personal life. Rishi in his book also shed some light on his relationship with his actor-son Ranbir Kapoor.
While the actor admitted that he had no say in Ranbir’s creative choices, he never tried to interfere in his career. Rishi also admitted that he was ‘a strict father’.
Rishi shared in his book that the father-son duo always maintained that relationship but he also regretted that they were never ‘friends’. On the other hand, his wife and actor Neetu Kapoor was quite close to son Ranbir.
An excerpt from Rishi Kapoor’s book Khullam Khulla read, “The distance that exists between us is similar to the one between my father and me. Ranbir and I see each other through this space but can’t feel each other. At least, I can’t. There are times when I feel I’ve missed out on being a friend to my son.”
He added, “I was a strict father because I was brought up to believe that’s how a father should be. In one of his interviews, Ranbir said, ‘My father is not a friend. He is a father. I can’t backslap him and joke around with him.’ He is a friend to Neetu but not to me, and that’s something I deeply regret.”
Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30, 2020, at the age of 67 after battling leukemia for two years.
On the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor is himself a dad now to daughter Raha Kapoor. Celebrity photographer Avinash Gowarikar recently shared that Ranbir was in a rush to go back home to his daughter Raha.
