Actor Vivek Oberoi opened up about dealing with toxic relationships, emerging from bad breakups, and said that if he hadn’t found a higher purpose in life, he would’ve remained stuck in a ‘plastic life’, around people with ‘plastic smiles’. In an interview, Vivek also acknowledged his past differences with Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan, and said, ‘God bless them,’ when asked to comment about both actors.

Appearing on Dr Jai Madaan’s YouTube channel, Vivek was asked to react to certain names, which included his parents and himself. He was then made to comment about Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan, and he had similar answers for them both. About Aishwarya’s husband, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek said, “He’s a sweetheart, a really nice person.”

Vivek, who now fancies himself a philanthropist and entrepreneur, said that he is glad to have found a greater purpose in life. Asked about emerging from a difficult period emotionally and professionally, and whether it impacted the path that he finds himself on now, Vivek said, “Perhaps I would’ve become a superficial person, living a superficial life. Perhaps I would’ve become plastic myself, among people with plastic smiles. If people troll me now, I don’t care. Because I know my purpose in life, I know what is the most important to me.”

Vivek said that being a celebrity ‘amplifies’ one’s experiences. “Your breakup becomes world news,” he said. Asked to give advice to people going through breakups, Vivek said, “If someone is leaving your life, think of it this way. A child drops his lollipop in the mud, his mother won’t allow him to eat it because it is dirty, would she? Life will give you a new partner. The longer you stay with pain the more it’ll grow,” he said.

Vivek continued, “I’m speaking from personal experience. Sometimes, we go into abusive relationships, relationships where people are using you, people are not valuing you, not respecting you. You go into that relationship because you haven’t identified your self-worth. You think it’s right to have a fatalist attitude, thinking, ‘I don’t care, I can give my life also’. But you have to value yourself.”
