One doesn’t mess with an angry Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The filmmaker revealed how he was so irked with some functions going on at Film City–loud music kept interfering with the shoot of 12th Fail–that he barged onto a neighbouring set with his crew and ordered them to stop it.
During a special event to celebrate 100 days of 12th Fail in cinemas, where the filmmaker was in conversation with his lead actor Vikrant Massey, he recalled the argument he had with another producer because noise from their set was disrupting his shoot.
“I would request the students of Whistling Woods (film school) to write to Film City that the area should be used for film shoots, not functions. We were filming an emotional scene, when a show started next to our set. Luckily, my reputation is quite bad. This poor boy (Vikrant) was saying… I mean, we were shooting in sync sound. Vikrant’s character was saying how he would go back to his village and suddenly there was loud dance music! Finally, I stopped the shoot, told my whole crew to come with me.
“Imagine, 40-50 people walked to the other set, the guards moved away. I said, ‘Jo bhi ye plug hai, nikalo isko.‘ The producer, whose identity you might learn later, told me, ‘Arey tum gunda gardi kar rahe ho’ and I shot back, ‘Main sar toduga tera!’ This is Film City, we make cinema here, ye tum log kya ghatiya kar rahe ho? I would request you guys to please draft a letter, I would sign it. Please stop this nonsense,” he said as the students cheered in agreement.
