Vicky Kaushal in ChhaavaVicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava will release on February 14.

The promotional videos, including the trailer and teaser, of the Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava have aroused the interest of fans. In the film, Vicky plays the role of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who ascended the throne after the death of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire. During a recent interaction, Chhaava director Laxman Utekar revealed how Vicky gave his ‘life and soul’ to this role.

He narrated an incident where Vicky was tied up the whole night to shoot a scene. While the actor did not object to any of it, the process did leave him injured, resulting in a one-and-a-half-month break for recovery. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Laxman shared an interesting coincidence that happened on the film’s set. He said, “During the first day of shooting the torture scene, we realized that it was the same day when Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was actually tortured. Coincidentally, we were filming on that very day.”

Talking about Vicky’s injury and the impact it had on the production, he said, “The whole night, Vicky’s hands were tied up, and when we removed the ropes, his hands refused to come down—they were blocked. We had to take a one-and-a-half-month break, and the set had to be dismantled during that period. We gave him time to recover, rebuilt the set, and resumed shooting afterward.”

Akshaye Khanna plays the role of Mughal Shahenshah Aurangzeb in the film. Earlier, Vicky had revealed that since most of his scenes were not with Akshaye, the two didn’t get the chance to interact much. However, when they finally met on set, they maintained a strict professional distance. Recalling the experience, he shared, “When we were shooting that scene, we exchanged no good mornings or goodbyes or hellos. He was Aurangzeb and I was Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and we went straight into shooting the scene. There was no communication as Vicky Kaushal to Akshaye Khanna.”

Chhaava releases in theatres on February 14.
