Social media sensation Uorfi Javed has lashed out against those spreading fake pictures of wrestlers Sangeeta and Vinesh Phogat. Uorfi said it was sad people had to “stoop so low” and take the help of “lies” to defame someone.
On Sunday, Delhi Police detained protesting wrestlers, who were trying to march towards the new Parliament from their site of protest at Jantar Mantar. A picture that had gone viral on social media featuring Sangeeta and Vinesh Phogat smiling inside a police van.
The social media star, in another post, came out in support of the protesting wrestlers. Reacting to a video shared by wrestler Sakshi Malik, which showed a scuffle breaking out between protesters and police personnel even as the former are resisting, Uorfi tweeted with the hashtag, “Wrestlers Protest”.
In one of the videos, a few female police officers was seen forcefully dragging a woman away from the protest site. Sakshi Malik had previously appealed to the international fraternity to extend their support to the protesting wrestlers as well.
“To all my international fraternity. Our Prime Minister is inaugurating our new parliament. But on the other hand, Our supporters has been arrested for supporting us,” she had tweeted.
