Are there terrible mothers in the world? Well, if you ask author, columnist, and film producer Twinkle Khanna this question, she would say that there are only very few truly terrible mothers.
Khanna, who is currently travelling across the UK with her daughter Nitara Kumar, recently put up an Instagram reel titled “The joys of motherhood” in which she gives her followers a sneak peek into their tour while listing out, in her usual witty manner, the numerous efforts and sacrifices that mothers make for their children.
“Dragging them on exhausting trips, while secretly longing for a solo vacation; frantically chasing after them as they sprint towards another platform, like deranged marathon runners; instilling the love of reading in their little minds. Splurging on treats for them, while suppressing the urge to snatch it away and devour it yourself; showing them the world and all its wonders; pretending you are not irritated because you told them to use the bathroom when you left the hotel and now they want you to find them a toilet in an open field; putting their happiness above yours,” she lists out as the different ‘joys’ of motherhood.
Towards the end of the reel, she, however, maintains that it doesn’t matter what mothers do, when kids grow up, they will end up blaming them. “It doesn’t matter what you do. When they grow up, they will go to therapy and blame you:),” she wrote.
“All we can do is hope that they realise that there are very few truly terrible mothers. Even the mother from Home Alone – who forgot about her child not once, but also in the sequel – was not evil, just overwhelmed. Mothers are far from perfect, but most of us try to do our best, even on our worst days. Agree? Disagree,” Mrs Funnybones wrote as a description for the reel.
Twinkle Khanna, daughter of renowned Hindi film actors Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna, married Bollywood film star Akshay Kumar in 2001. The couple has two kids — Aarav, born in 2002, and Nitara, born in 2012.
While Khanna and her daughter are currently on vacation, Kumar is currently in Uttarakhand, shooting for his upcoming film.
