What would you get as a Valentine’s Day gift from your husband if you are married for over two decades? Actor-turned-author Twinkle Khanna answered the question in her recent column for The Times Of India. Twinkle joked about consumerism surrounding Valentine’s Day and shared the bitter truth about what women usually get on Valentine’s Day if they are married for 23 years.
In the column, she mused about the origins of Valentine’s Day, humorously suggesting it may have started as a marketing ploy to boost post-Christmas sales. Twinkle quoted German-American philosopher Hannah Arendt to underscore the importance of talking about experiences.
Reflecting on the tradition of exchanging gifts on Valentine’s Day, she wrote, “With all its consumerism, Valentine’s Day perhaps makes the abstraction of love more concrete. Though if you ask women who have been married for over a decade, the most honest answer to ‘What did your husband give you on Valentine’s Day?’ would be, ‘As usual, a headache.’ Love, in fact, may be the ultimate thought experiment. It’s a paradox where accepting each other’s flaws creates an imperfectly perfect connection, with or without wilting red roses and Archie’s card featuring two cartoon hearts winking at each other.”
On January 17 Twinkle celebrated her 23rd wedding anniversary in London. The occasion coincided with Twinkle’s graduation ceremony after completing a Masters in Fiction Writing at the Goldsmiths, University of London.
Lauding his wife for his latest achievement, Akshay took to Instagram to share a sweet note. “Two years ago when you told me you wanted to take up studies all over again, I wondered if you meant it. But the day I saw you work so hard and perfectly manage a full-fledged student life along with home, career, me and kids, I knew I had married a super woman. Today on your graduation, I also wish I had studied a bit more to know enough words to tell you how proud you make me, Tina. Congratulations and all my love. ♥️,” he wrote.
