Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar released in theatres on Holi, and after collecting Rs 15.7 crore on its opening day, the film has witnessed an expected drop in its collections on the second day. Directed by Luv Ranjan, the film seems to have not made the most out of its festival release, but it is projected to pick up the pace over the weekend. On the second day, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar collected Rs 10.34 crore, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Taran shared that the film saw a decline of 34.27% since the second day was a working day. The film is expected to pick up during the weekend.
“#TuJhoothiMainMakkaar maintains the grip on Day 2… A 34.27% decline on a working day – after a holiday – was inevitable… Biz should start moving from Fri [evening] onwards, with Sat-Sun giving that extra boost… Wed 15.73 cr, Thu 10.34 cr. Total: ₹ 26.07 cr. #India biz. #TJMM,” he shared on Twitter.
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’s collections are significantly better than the other two star vehicles that released recently. Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi-starrer Selfiee did a lifetime business of Rs 11.40 crore, and Kartik Aaryan-starrer Shehzada could only collect Rs 26 crore during its run. It seems like Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is set to cross the lifetime collections of the Kartik Aaryan film within its first weekend.
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is Ranbir’s first release of the year, and marks Shraddha’s return to cinemas after 2020’s Baaghi 3. The film also marks the big return of Luv Ranjan, who hasn’t directed a film since 2018’s Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. The 2018 film had a modest opening of Rs 6.42 crore but managed to get past Rs 108 crore in its lifetime collection making it the the filmmaker’s biggest hit.
