The release date for Kamal Haasan’s much-anticipated film Thug Life has finally been announced on the actor’s birthday on Thursday. The makers unveiled a brief, 44-second teaser, offering a glimpse into the epic world created by director Mani Ratnam. Along with this, they confirmed that the film will hit theatres on June 5, 2025.
The larger-than-life teaser opens with cinematic views of a car rolling down a solitary road flanked by trees on both sides, setting the tone for the film’s epic scale. Another shot shows a man running across a snow-covered surface. We are then given a fleeting glimpse of a bearded Kamal Haasan, who, with vengeance in his eyes, takes on a group of villains. The teaser also features Silambarasan, who is seen celebrating Holi in one frame and, in another, drenched in blood as he leaps at his enemies in a fierce display. In yet another quick cut, a younger Kamal Haasan sports sunglasses.
Thug Life marks a monumental reunion between director Mani Ratnam and actor Kamal Haasan after a gap of 36 years. The duo last worked together on the commercially successful and critically acclaimed film Nayakan in 1987. Thug Life’s sophisticated cinematography is clearly evident in the teaser, thanks to cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran, who is handling this crucial aspect of the film. The music for Thug Life is composed by the legendary AR Rahman, who has been behind the iconic scores of many Mani Ratnam films such as Ponniyin Selvan, Guru, Roja, and Dil Se. The film’s editing is managed by Sreekar Prasad.
Like his fans, Kamal Haasan’s daughter and actor Shruti Haasan also celebrated his legacy. She shared a photo with the actor and wrote, “Happy birthday appa You’re a rare 💎 and walking by your side Is one of my favourite things to do in life I know you don’t believe in god , but you’ll always Be his / her chosen child and I’m always so excited To see all the magical things you do .. to many many more birthdays and celebrating many more dreams come to life Love you so much pa 🩶🧿.”
Thug Life is a co-production between Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies, Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Film International, and Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. Thug Life boasts an ensemble cast, with Kamal Haasan leading the charge, alongside Trisha, Nassar, Joju George, Ali Fazal, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Abhirami, who all play prominent roles in the film.
