Thamma Box Office Collection Day 4: Maddock launched its cinematic universe’s logo just a few weeks ago amid much hype, after announcing a hugle slate of films that is scheduled to go on for the next five years. But, after what has happened to its latest release Thamma, it looks like the masters of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe will have to examine their plans closely. After witnessing a constant dip in earnings since its release, Thamma’s collections fell even more on day 4. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Thamma has already recorded its first day of single-digit earnings, bringing in just Rs 9.5 crore on day four. This brings its domestic net collection to Rs 65.5 crore, and considering the primo Diwali release it got, the numbers are quite disappointing.

The Diwali release spot has always been a prime spot for Hindi films. Makers believe that with the festivities kicking in, and families getting together for celebrations, Diwali is the biggest money making opportunity for them. Films like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayege, Hum Saath Saath Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Om Shanti Om have all been released on this particular occasion and have gone on to become the cornerstones of this industry. But, they had something besides the correct release date, and it appears that while Thamma got the right time at the cinemas, it did not have the content to back it up.

In recent years, films like Tiger 3, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again also released on Diwali and while these were seen as underperformers given the big budget that was involved in their making, the collections of Thamma have been much lower than these as well. Starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, Tiger 3 had already crossed the Rs 200 crore mark by the fourth day, and it went on to earn Rs 464 crore worldwide. The Kartik Aaryan-led Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which is closer to Thamma than Tiger 3 considering the genre, had earned Rs 124 crore by this time, and it went on to earn Rs 389 crore worldwide. The ensemble cop drama Singham Again was also better poised at this stage of its theatrical run and had earned Rs 139 crore. Its total worldwide collection was Rs 372 crore.

The earnings are quite self-explanatory and the proof of the decline of the collection was seen in the occupancy rates as well, which averaged out at 13.63%. The film still has close to 5000 shows in Hindi, but that number is bound to keep falling if the numbers don’t improve over the weekend. Meanwhile, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, another Diwali release which got much lesser screens, is staying consistent at the box office. After four days, it has made Rs 28.25 crore at the box office, with less than half the shows allotted for Thamma.

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the cast of the film includes Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, Janardan Kadam, and Geeta Agrawal Sharma.
