Tanishaa Mukerji made her Hindi film debut with Sssshhh… in 2003, which also starred Dino Morea and Gaurav Kapur. In a recent interaction, Tanishaa revealed that she had a near-death experience on the set of the film when she and her co-stars met with a serious accident.
Speaking to Vickey Lalwani, Tanishaa recalled travelling with her co-stars and director Pavan S Kaul when their car fell into a gorge. She said, “My director was driving the car. It was a good film. We were enjoying a lot. Dino Morea, me and Gaurav Kapur, all were inside the car. We all thought we will go to work together that day. The director was driving the car, and he slid on black ice and our car stumbled into a gorge. Gaurav had fractures in three places in his arm. Dino also had a fracture.”
Sharing details of her own injuries, Tanishaa admitted she suffered a concussion after the accident. “I suffered from a head injury, which was very dangerous, I had a concussion. So doctor told me, my brain had shifted to the side of my scalp and then came back to its place and that’s why left or maybe right hemisphere of my brain was swollen. It took more than one year for it to get better, but I had to finish this film and other films.”
She further added, “After this accident, I lost my memory. We see in films that characters get up after an injury and ask who are you, I was that person. My mom was with me in Manali, where the shooting was going on and we had to come to Delhi for treatment.”
Apart from recalling the accident, Tanishaa also spoke recently about the ongoing debate on nepotism in the film industry and explained why she loves ‘nepo babies.’ Speaking to Pinkvilla, she had said, “We say ‘Make in India’, but Bollywood is made in India already; Indian actors, Indian subjects… Why aren’t we getting those concessions? Why are we being penalised? Why are we being Bollywood-bashed constantly? This is something that really hurts me, because I’m a Bollywood baby. I love my film industry, I love my film fraternity, I love people coming into my fraternity, I love people born in this industry, I love my nepo babies, and I want to know why we are being bashed!”
Tanishaa continued, “I’ll tell you something very clearly. When you come from a film family, you think of the film industry first. You’re not somebody who’s here to take from the film industry. Yes, you want to be an actor, you want to be a director, you want to be a producer in the film industry, but you will always think of giving to the film industry. Somewhere, I feel, people who come from outside, they come with no loyalty to our film industry. They come to take.”
