Suniel Shetty became an action star in the 1990s but in the last few years, the actor has been known for ageing gracefully and promoting a healthy lifestyle, instead of starring in movies. In a recent interview, Suniel spoke about the same and said that while he receives a lot of love from his fans, he also understands that they aren’t willing to spend their money to buy a ticket for his film. Suniel shared that he acknowledges the missteps he might have taken through his selection of movies and admitted that his work in movies has been irrelevant since 2014.
Suniel said that he made some changes in his career and moved away from the action genre after he realised that his movies might be working for the world but they weren’t necessarily working for his family. He shared with ANI, “Even though my films were working, when I came back home, the films didn’t work. After showing my parents the film, my wife and my daughter, they said, ‘Very good,’ and then they said, ‘Ramu Saridon hai toh de do ek (Give me a Saridon if you have one).’ I heard that. Yani sir mein dard hua hai bete ki film dekhke (That means they have a headache after watching their son’s film).”
Suniel Shetty said that as he made the change, he saw a lot of failure as well. The actor then explained that he still receives a lot of love from fans, sometimes even more than a current movie star but he understands that a newer movie star can sell tickets, but he can’t. “There’s a lot of love Suniel Shetty has. Across the country, if you take any kid with me, you’ll be shocked by the amount of love I get, even taking into consideration a kid from today’s generation. But that kid also sells tickets, I don’t sell tickets, which means I had messed up somewhere. I didn’t give quality products. I started doing anything and everything and after a while and they said pyaar karta hu par paise nahi dnga tere liye (I love you but I won’t spend money on you). I think that’s what happened in my journey. So I am aware of all that,” he said.
Suniel, who was last seen in the miniTV series Hunter Tootega Nahi Todega, said that he still gets a lot of love and he is still written about fondly but said that he hasn’t done any work as an actor in the last decade that was “earth-shattering”. “If you see cinema-wise, I’m irrelevant since 2014. What have I done that is earth-shattering? Nothing. But I’m still written about,” he said.
Suniel Shetty is best known for appearing in films like Hera Pheri, Mohra, Dhadkan, Main Hoon Na, Border among others.
