Neither festivals nor film releases could hinder the remarkable box office run of Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2. Despite Ganpati Visarjan celebrations on Sunday, the film saw an impressive boost in its collection during its fourth weekend. After experiencing a 15 percent dip in earnings on Friday, the film bounced back, raking in Rs 8.5 crore on Saturday — a notable 88 percent increase. According to Sacnilk, Stree 2’s collection surged even higher on Sunday, bringing in Rs 10.75 crore. This has pushed Stree 2’s total domestic collection to Rs 527 crore.
This achievement also means that Stree 2 has surpassed Gadar 2 at the box office. Sunny Deol’s film had collected Rs 525.7 crore in India, whereas Stree 2 now stands at Rs 527 crore. Additionally, the Amar Kaushik-directed film has outpaced the Hindi version of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which had minted Rs 524.53 crore. With this, Stree 2 has emerged as the third highest Hindi earner ever. Reports also indicate that Stree 2’s worldwide collection has now reached Rs 759.30 crore.
After surpassing Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein, which released on the same day as Stree 2, the film has maintained its dominance at the box office, enjoying an uninterrupted run. Even on the previous Friday, the film faced no major competition, as Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency was postponed due to a delay in receiving certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Now that Emergency has received a U/A certificate, its release is expected soon. However, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Hansal Mehta’s The Buckingham Murders, set to release on September 13, could present stiff competition to Stree 2.
Stree 2 is part of the Maddock Supernatural Universe. Director Amar Kaushik recently revealed that he is working on Bhediya 2, which is also part of this horror universe. In addition, Kaushik has announced a new vampire film featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, titled Thamba.
