Senior advocate Majeed Memon has represented many Bollywood celebrities in various high-profile cases. Encapsulating his journey of 50 years, Majeed Memon recently released his autobiography called My Memoirs, where he addressed many cases related to Bollywood personalities. In his book, he speaks about several cases, including defamation cases filed by Anupam Kher, and Sunil Dutt, Gulshan Kumar’s murder case, and more. Majeed, who also represented Sanjay Dutt trial in 1993 Bombay bomb blasts case, called it one of his most challenging times in the book. He also speaks about the Bollywood and underworld connection, revealing how many times stars’ names were used only to glamorize a certain case.
Recently, in an exclusive conversation with SCREEN, Majeed Memon shared that while many celebrity-related cases made it to his book, one case he didn’t write about was about the late actress Sridevi. While he didn’t share details, he said the actress was specially called to the court as the judge wanted to see her in person.
“Once, I was appearing for Sridevi in a case. At that time, she was at the apex of the industry. People were crazy to have a glimpse of her, even the magistrate was very keen to see her. I applied for an exemption, but it was not granted. The judge told me to keep my client present because he was keen to see Sridevi. Finally, when she came to court, the crowd was uncontrollable,” Majeed Memon shared.
In another chapter of his book, he mentioned that Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan turned hostile witnesses during the Bharat Shah case. When asked if he feared no backlash for naming prominent names from Bollywood in his book, he said, “I was not at all apprehensive taking Salman Khan or Shah Rukh Khan’s names, what I have said was that they were falsely accused only to glamorize the case.”
Talking about his connection with Bollywood, he revealed that he studied in college with many of them. “I am quite well known in Bollywood. Mahesh Bhatt is a personal friend, and I have been friends with various celebrities since my college days. Dilip Kumar, Sunil Dutt and many others including me used to assemble at Naushad saab’s house every day. I was acquainted with them and I became a lawyer.”
