Sonu Sood is famously known for his philanthropic work since COVID-19 pandemic. He has also worked in several movies across languages. Right from playing the lead romantic hero in Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi to playing a deadly villain in the Telugu horror-drama Arundhati, the actor has done wide range of roles. At a recent interview, however, Sonu Sood expressed concern over his fellow actors who do acting even off-camera.

In a recent interaction with Jist, Sonu Sood took a jibe at his fellow actors and said they will “hate me” for saying this but there are many of them who are better actors off-camera than on camera. Calling it “very unfortunate”, the actor said, “I believe one should stop acting after the camera goes off, but some people are simply unable to do that. I see a lot of my colleagues acting off camera.”

The actor then gave an example and said, “You must have seen actors accompanied by bodyguards a lot of times. Even I get a few of them when attending big events. The thing with me is that I ask my bodyguards to let me be as I really enjoy interacting with people. The other day, I was in Kolkata and I decided I will go in public places and use public transport and interact with people. Now, this terrified my bodyguards that ‘people will crowd around you’. But, I was like no I don’t need protection, I simply went with my team, people did come, nothing really happened. Even people like it.”

The actor said, however, most of his colleagues keep bodyguards not for safety but to draw attention. He said, “Many of them get their bodyguards at airport too and then they create a whole scene there. Once I spoke to one of the bodyguards and asked, ‘Why are you creating a scene? Cannot you move calmly?’ He said, ‘No sir, we are instructed to create drama. If not, we get yelled at.’ So a lot of actors make their entourage create all these drama to draw attention of the people as they are simply insecure that if they will visit a place without the drama, people will fail to notice them.”

He claimed most of these celebrity bodyguards are trained to create ruckus. He said, “If the same actor decided to walk without any security, then a couple of their fans will request for photographs… they don’t do anything more.”

In the same interview, Sonu Sood recalled another incident that happened to him when he was at his gym. He said, “There is this one actor I won’t like to name him who created a whole scene to enter the gym. I was working out when a friend of mine came to me and asked, ‘Sonu bhai, tell me something. On my way, I saw a car arrive outside. As soon as it stopped, a bodyguard got down from it. There was nobody in the locality. Yet, the bodyguard was making gestures as though he was shooing crowd. After a while, he signalled at the actor, who got down in style.’ I replied to him, ‘they are all just acting off camera.'”
