Actor Ameesha Patel, who was recently seen in the film Gadar 2, has shared her thoughts on how glamour and physical appearance can sometimes overshadow one’s performance skills. She mentioned that individuals who aren’t conventionally attractive are often acknowledged as true actors. Her statement was quite reminiscent of Sonam Kapoor’s stance on the subject as she had once shared on Koffee with Karan that “if you are not good-looking, they think you are a good actor.”

In an interview with Zoom Entertainment, Ameesha pointed out that the roles offered to her were more than just glamorous appearances. She highlighted her substantial contributions in movies like Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Gadar, and Humraaz, where her roles were not only on par with the heroes but also central to the storyline.

However, Ameesha said, “But I think sometimes looks and glamour overtake even that; people overlook your ability to perform. Sometimes, you know, when you’re not conventionally attractive and yet you deliver a strong performance, they recognize you as an actor. However, if you possess certain public appeal in terms of looks, they tend to assume that it’s solely your appearance that matters.”

Talking about facing rejections, the actor said, “I’ve always been strong, I always say good luck to the people that replaced me, and good luck to me in the films I have done. There’s a place for everyone, and some of the films that I got replaced in, well, some bombed while others did very well. But I have no regrets because ultimately, it’s destiny. Now, my friends tease me even more; they say, ‘You know, I think God has saved you only for the iconic blockbusters.'”

Years ago, when Sonam spoke about one’s looks contributing to their success as an actor, her statements drew a lot of criticism. She said, “The thing about the industry is if you are not good-looking, they think you are a good actor. Fortunately for me, the reason I have survived in this industry is because of the critics. Because I don’t get bad reviews. ‘Bol diya yaar maine, aise kar liya yaar,’ this is not acting, hello! If you look ordinary, and act loud, doesn’t mean you are a good actor. It is also you know…people feel bad ki ‘yaar she look like this, she might be a good actress.”
