Actor Sonakshi Sinha married Zaheer Iqbal on Sunday evening in the presence of friends and family at her residence. Actor and Parliamentarian Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter also shared photos from her interfaith wedding moments later, acknowledging blessings from ‘both our families and both our gods,’ taking a dig at the trolling she has been facing since the speculation about their wedding started. However, both Sonakshi and Zaheer switched off comments on their posts to avoid hate and trolling during the happy occasion.
“On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each others eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it. Today that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where with the blessings of both our families and both our gods… we are now man and wife. Here’s to love, hope and all things beautiful with each other, from now until forever,” she wrote on Instagram. She was flanked by dad Shatrughan as she signed the papers for the civil ceremony. This also ended weeks of speculation where it was claimed that the veteran actor was not happy with the nuptials of his daughter.
When asked how he was feeling on the day of his daughter’s wedding, Shatrughan had earlier told Times Now, “Yeh bhi koi poochne ki baat hai? Every father waits for this moment when his daughter is given to her chosen groom. My daughter looks most happy with Zaheer. Unki jodi salamat rahe,” he had said.
The actor, who had married wife Poonam for love, had added, “44 years ago, Shatrughan Sinha married a very successful, very beautiful, very talented girl of his choice, Poonam Sinha. Now it is Sonakshi’s turn to marry the boy of her choice.”
