Sky Force box office collection day 4: A day after recording its highest single-day collection to date, Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya’s action drama Sky Force took a massive nosedive on Monday, with its domestic earnings plummeting by over 77 per cent. While the film’s performance remains stronger than most of Akshay’s recent box office bombs, it still fell short of surpassing the first Monday collection of Raksha Bandhan (Rs 6.31 crore), another movie featuring the actor that struggled at the box office.
On Monday, the action drama recorded an India nett collection of Rs 6.25 crore, reflecting a sharp 77.68 per cent drop from its Sunday earnings of Rs 28 crore, as per early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. This has taken the movie’s total domestic nett collection to Rs 68.5 crore and its worldwide gross to Rs 81 crore. However, producers Maddock Films have claimed that Sky Force’s domestic nett has already surpassed the Rs 70 crore mark, with its global gross reaching Rs 92.90 crore in three days.
During the day, the film reported a nominal overall occupancy rate of 13.37 per cent in the Hindi market. While the morning shows began with a low 6.01 per cent occupancy, the figure steadily improved throughout the day, rising to 10.63 per cent in the afternoon, 12.87 per cent in the evening and peaking at 23.95 per cent during night screenings.
Although Sky Force’s fourth-day earnings are underwhelming, they are still better than Akshay Kumar’s recent box office bombs such as Samrat Prithviraj (Rs 5 crore), Ram Setu (Rs 3 crore), Selfiee (Rs 1.3 crore), Mission Raniganj (Rs 1.5 crore), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (Rs 2.5 crore), Sarfira (Rs 1.45 crore) and Khel Khel Mein (Rs 2 crore). However, it is worth noting that the actor’s last successful outing OMG 2 had collected Rs 12.06 crore on its first Monday in theatres.
The big question now is whether Sky Force, helmed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, will regain momentum and cross its break-even point, especially with Shahid Kapoor’s highly anticipated action thriller Deva set to release this Friday, which will likely pose tough competition to the Akshay Kumar-starrer at the box office. In her review of the movie, SCREEN’s Shubhra Gupta wrote, “Sky Force, coasting on the same elements as Fighter, except this one is a thinly-disguised account of a real life incident during the 1965 Indo-Pak conflict.”
