After minting Rs 100 crore within 10 days of its release, Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya’s film Sky Force is struggling to maintain momentum at the box office. After completing its first week, the film saw a steep drop in collections on Monday, and the decline continued on Tuesday. According to Sacnilk, Sky Force minted Rs 1.35 crore on Tuesday, bringing its domestic total to Rs 102.95 crore.

Akshay and Veer’s film had collected Rs 86.5 crore within its first week. It saw a further 66 percent jump in collections on Saturday, raking in Rs 5 crore, followed by Rs 5.5 crore on Sunday. However, after the second weekend, the film’s earnings hit a new low, witnessing a 70 percent drop on Monday as it earned Rs 1.6 crore, followed by another dip on Tuesday. The film had an overall 7.77 percent Hindi occupancy on Tuesday.

Sky Force is facing stiff competition from Shahid Kapoor’s Deva. The latter, which earned Rs 2.35 crore on Tuesday, has amassed Rs 24.25 crore in domestic collections within just five days of its release. Meanwhile, Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor’s Loveyapa is set to release on Friday, February 7, adding further competition for Sky Force at the box office.

The film’s box office journey has been riddled with controversies. While its initial run was bolstered by strong word-of-mouth promotion among theatre-going audiences, the makers also implemented heavy ticket discounts during the opening week. Both factors contributed to its early success. However, trade analyst Komal Nahta has cast doubts on the authenticity of the film’s reported collections. He argued that Sky Force’s actual first-week earnings were Rs 40.5 crore, far lower than the Rs 80 crore figure claimed by the makers. He further alleged that the producers spent heavily on blocking seats and self-buying, inflating the film’s box office numbers.

He said, “Heavy block booking of the unsold tickets was done on each single day of the first week to give the impression that the film was performing extraordinarily at the ticket counters. This was, perhaps, the maximum block bookings anyone had ever done in the history of Bollywood.”

Directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur, Sky Force is produced by Maddock Films and Jio Studios. The film also stars Sara Ali Khan and Nimrat Kaur.
