Sitaare Zameen Par trailer: Aamir Khan plays a teacher yet again as he coaches a basketball team of ‘intellectually disabled’ people

Sitaare Zameen Par trailer: Aamir Khan plays a basketball coach who is required to coach a team of 'intellectually disabled' people.

Sitaare Zameen ParAamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par releases in theatres on June 20.

Sitaare Zameen Par trailer: The makers of Aamir Khan-starrer Sitaare Zameen Par dropped its trailer online on Tuesday evening and it looks like Aamir is playing a character that’s completely opposite to his character from Taare Zameen Par. In the trailer, we meet his character named Gulshan, a violent and aggressive man, who doesn’t mind driving in a drunk state. After getting in trouble with the law, he is assigned the task of coaching a team of “intellectually disabled” people for a basketball tournament.

The trailer describes this film as a “heartwarming family entertainer” where they insist that the idea of normalcy isn’t the same for everyone. It appears that the film is trying to desperately underline the progress of Aamir’s character who blatantly describes the men and women in the team as “pagal” on numerous occasions, and will hopefully come around by the end of the film. Even though the movie is called Sitaare Zameen Par, with Sitaare being the name of the team, this appears to be the story of the coach who learns the error of his ways through their story.

Genelia Deshmukh, Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, Brijendra Kala also star in the film, and Genelia seems to be playing Aamir’s love interest here.

In a recent interaction with one of his fan clubs in China, Aamir Khan revealed that he plays a “very rude” basketball coach in the film. He said, “My character, Nikumbh, in Taare Zameen Par was a very sensitive person. In this film, my character’s name is Gulshan, but his personality is exactly the opposite of Nikumbh. He is very rude, politically incorrect, and he insults everybody. He fights with his wife, mother. He is a basketball coach and he beats up his senior coach. He is a person with a lot of internal problems.” Apart Taare Zameen Par, Aamir also played a coach in his career’s most successful film, Dangal.

This marks Aamir’s return to the cinemas after 2022’s Laal Singh Chaddha, which bombed at the box office. Soon after the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha, which was the Indian remake of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump, Aamir announced that he would be taking a sabbatical from the movies. However, the actor decided otherwise and got back to films soon after.

Directed by RS Prasanna, and written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, the film releases on June 20.
