Sharib Hashmi reveals he had to sell ‘house and jewellery’ during struggle days; says wife Nasreen took up a job to support family

Sharib Hashmi left his well-paying job to try his luck in showbiz at a time when he had a comfortable life and was already married.

Actor Sharib Hashmi realised his dream of becoming an actor quite late in life and started giving auditions at the age of 33. He left his well-paying job to try his luck in showbiz at a time when he had a comfortable life and was already married. But had it not been for his wife’s belief in him, Sharib would not have become a household name today.

In a recent interview with Siddharth Kanan, Sharib recalled the sacrifices his wife made to let him shine and fulfil his dreams. He said, “It was my wife Nasreen who supported me and stood by my side. She told me, ‘If this is what you want to do in life, then I am with you.’ She had left her job after our son was born. But when we exhausted all our savings, it was she who took up a job again to support the family. She was dabbling with her job and family together. Hats off to her.”

Sharib first got noticed for his role as Shah Rukh Khan’s roommate and friend in Yash Chopra’s, Jab Tak Hai Jaan. He then grabbed attention with his role in Amazon Prime Video’s The Family Man. Recently, he was praised for his turn as a villainous Babloo in Hrithik Roshan-Saif Ali Khan-led Vikram Vedha.

The actor shared he got the ‘strength’ to follow his dreams from his wife Nasreen. “We both were struggling, but it was her who sacrificed more. If she would have said no early on, I would have never become an actor. The way she encouraged me, gave me confidence and strength to follow my dreams,” Sharib said.

Guilty about selling his house and jewellery to fulfil his dream, Sharib once told his wife, “Because of my dreams, I have ruined all of your lives. We sold the house we bought. We sold the jewellery. You all are suffering because of my dream”. This is when Nasreen told him not to ‘belittle’ the sacrifices his family has made for him

Nasreen Hashmi was diagnosed with oral cancer but she didn’t let the disease affect her positive outlook towards life. Sharib recalled, “While things started improving professionally, my wife suffered from cancer. But, she is so strong-willed and courageous. She has had four surgeries and yet she gets up within 3-4 days every time. She has that will to live for her children.” Sharib and Nasreen are parents of two children, a daughter and a son.

Sharib Hashmi was last seen in the ZEE5 film Tarla where he essayed the role of Tarla Dalal’s husband.
