He was Kabir Singh on set, a doting father off screen. Actor Shahid Kapoor has revealed he would take two-hour long showers after pack-up while filming for Kabir Singh, as he would smoke two packets of cigarettes a day and would smell of nicotine– something which he didn’t want his baby to even sniff.
Shahid, who became a father in 2015, said he was in a “fatherly mode” when he had his first child Misha and was particular about a few things, which included smoking.
“I used to take a shower in my van before I got out of set. Because I used to smoke two packets of cigarettes a day! I was smelling of nicotine and I had just had my first baby and so I was in that fatherly mode. And I was like, ‘I don’t want my child to even smell nicotine,'” Shahid said in an interview with Film Companion.
The actor said he would smoke “on and off” but gave it up completely after Kabir Singh, which released in 2019. By then, Shahid and his wife Meera had their second child, Zain.
“I actually gave up right after. I used to smoke on and off and I just stopped. So I’ve not smoked for over five, six years now. I don’t want my child to smell this on me,” he added.
Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Kabir Singh was a remake of the Telugu hit Arjun Reddy. The film, also starring Kiara Advani, emerged as the biggest grosser of Shahid’s career.
Post Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor was seen in Jersey, which was released theatrically, and this year’s actioner Bloody Daddy, which was a direct-to-digital outing. Shahid will be next seen in a yet-untitled romantic comedy co-starring Kriti Sanon, while Sandeep Reddy Vanga is awaiting the release of his next directorial, Animal.
