If there’s one person who knows how to repeatedly captivate the hearts that he already won years ago through his gestures, words and charm, it’s Shah Rukh Khan. His respectful nature and kind heart, treating everyone — from colleagues to fans — with equal warmth, has earned him widespread praise. The latest edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2024, held in Abu Dhabi, stands as a testament to this.

At the event, Shah Rukh was named Best Actor for his performance in director Atlee Kumar’s Jawan. The award was presented to him by none other than ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam and Oscar-winning music maestro AR Rahman. Upon reaching the stage, SRK immediately went towards Ratnam and touched his feet as a gesture of respect and gave Rahman a warm hug, underscoring his love for all artistes. While videos of this gesture went viral on social media, another clip showing his acceptance speech also gained attention. During the speech, he expressed that this award held special significance, as his three 2023 films marked his return to lead roles after a five-year hiatus, prior to which his career had been going through a rough patch.

Thanking Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman for their invaluable lessons on cinema, Bollywood’s Baadshah expressed his gratitude for the award. “It’s good to be back. I love awards and I am greedy for them. However, to be honest, all these awards, whatever the category, are a bit subjective. So, I would like to congratulate all those who were nominated with me — Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Vikrant Massey, who was outstanding, my Vicky Kaushal, and Sunny Deol paaji. All of them deserve this award in one way or another,” he said, amidst thunderous applause and cheers from the audience.

Shah Rukh Khan also extended his thanks to Jawan’s director Atlee, cinematographer GK Vishnu, editor Ruben, composer Anirudh Ravichander, and co-stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone and the six members of Azad’s Army, along with the rest of the cast and crew. Produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma under Red Chillies Entertainment, Jawan grossed Rs 1,160 crore globally, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 and the second-highest-grossing Hindi film ever.
